To complete a Tree Service Provider Registry application, you must be signed into your Seattle Services Portal account. If you do not already have an account, you will need to create one (see these step-by-step instructions or view the Seattle Services Portal Overview video).
Before applying, please review the information and required documentation on the SDCI Trees & Codes webpage. If you have all your material ready to upload, the application process will take about 15-20 minutes to complete.
- Login to your Seattle Services Portal account
- Under Create New, click Trees
- Click Apply to become a SDCI Registered Tree Service Provider
- Read the SDCI Tree Service Provider Registration application instructions
- Add an Applicant by clicking Select From Account, Add New, or Look Up
- Add Financially Responsible Party by clicking Select From Account, Add New, or Look Up
- Add a Contact by clicking Select From Account, Add New, or Look Up
- Click Continue Application
- Enter the required Public Registry Information; this information will be published in an online directory of Registered Tree Service Providers
- Enter your active City of Seattle Business License Customer Number; the system will auto populate your Trade Name and Business License status and confirm your account status
If you don’t see a “customer number” on your Business License, the Customer number is the six (6) digit number (e.g., 000123456 …) found at the top of your business license.
If you receive an error message you will need to go to FileLocal to resolve the issue. Once resolved, enter the receipt number in the FileLocal Receipt/Confirmation Check box in order to continue completing your application.
- Unless you only provide tree consulting services, enter your active Washington L&I Contractor License Number so the system can confirm the status of your license
If the license number is not active, you must resolve the issue with Washington State L&I before you can submit your application. Select the Save and Resume Later button (located at the bottom right of the page) to continue your application later.
- Complete the Certificate of Insurance information
- Click the Checkboxes to acknowledge you have read the Tree Codes
Note: See the SDCI Trees & Codes webpage for more information. Read Seattle Municipal Code Chapter 25.11, SDCI Director's Rule 16-2008, and SDCI Director's Rule 8-2022.
- Provide the International Society for Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist information
You may add, edit, or delete certified arborists by clicking the Add Row, Edit Selected or Delete Selected. If you do not have all of the required information, click Save and Resume Later.

- Once all documents are uploaded, select the Type for each uploaded document
- Click Save
- Click Continue Application
- Review your application; click the Edit button if you need to make changes
- Check the certification Checkbox to sign your application; the date field is automatically set to the current date
